• Skylar Grey’s First Single Is Anything But ‘Invisible’

    Skylar Grey - Invisible

Now, that’s what I’m talking about!

Skylar Grey premiered her official lead single to Invinsibile, called “Invisible”. Don’t get too confused, now! And it sounds absolutely nothing like “Dance Without You”, which I still haven’t been able to warm up to. So this is a good thing to me even though I respect the hell out of Skylar’s creativity on that track. I just thought the production drowned out and took attention away from her voice, which I absolutely adore.

Some buzz singles are just a way for artists to try something really out there to get people talking. Similarly, JoJo has just announced that her recently released track, “The Other Chick” was also a buzz single.

“Invisible” is a wonderful pure pop song that I’ve been longing for lately. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have been doing their parts, but let’s be honest. They’re outnumbered!

Peep Skylar’s new and infectious single below. Hope it gets the attention and spins it deserves!

  • Skylar Grey Sings Her 3 Hooks (Acoustic Video)

See, this is what I’m talkin’ about! A musician sitting behind a piano (or with any other instrument) and just singing. Don’t need any risque outfit, backup dancers, or audio effects to let the talent show through!

Watching a video like this is why I fell in love with Skylar’s voice in the first place. It’s so unique! I fear the direction she’s going in, with this alternative pop sound, will mask or distort the sound that I’ve come to love. We’ll just have to see! Her official 1st single is coming soon!

  • Chris Brown Covers The Source Magazine

The Source Magazine feat. Chris Brown

All the blogs are buzzin with this long awaited cover for Chris Brown. Yes, this is his first one of the year, but really, what’d you expect? The print media had to see how his new album fared before taking that risk. It is what it is. And like I’ve said before, Breezy has been staying on his grind this year. Working hard and I guess that’s being rewarded now. No shade from JMF. Do ya thang, boi!

  • Skylar Grey Reveals Album Title

    Skylar Grey

The constant teasing all led to this: the announcement that Skylar Grey’s album is called Invinsibile. No, not invisible, or invincible; but invinsible. She did this on purpose! But she should be prepared for months of misspellings of her album title. Just sayin’.

The official press release also provides song titles such as “Weirdo,” “Building A Monster” and “Final Warning”.

“I have been working so hard with Alex on this music; I’m excited it’s finally going to be out there for everyone to hear. I won’t have to describe it anymore, because the music can finally speak for itself,” says Grey. “Also, I’m very influenced by film and it is my hope that when people listen to my music, they are consumed with vast, cinematic imagery.”

Still intrigued and still allowing “Dance Without You” to grow on me. Keep on, keepin’ on Miss Grey!

  • New Music: Skylar Grey – “Dance Without You”

    0

Skylar Grey has been hinting that she’d be going in a different direction, sound-wise, than most people expected. Hearing her recent collaborations, you might have expected some sort of fusion of pop/R&B. That’s cool and all, but you’d be WRONG!

Take a listen to “Dance Without You”, her buzz single, below:

You can download the single, free, through Skylar’s official website, www.skylargreymusic.com. Talk about a completely different sound!

After hearing the recently released snippet, I reserved judgement until hearing the full clip. The chorus fits better hearing the entire song, but this will have to be a grower. It’s almost “too different” to me. I appreciate there isn’t autotune or Euro-dance influences. Those are so played out to me. I got nuttin’ but respect for someone who operates outside the box and tries something so original. We’ll see how this goes!

  • New Single Came To Vanessa Carlton In Her Sleep

    Vanessa Carlton

I often have messed up dreams. And sometimes, those dreams contain dreams and ideas that wake me up. But, unlike Vanessa Carlton, my ideas don’t turn into great works of arts like a beautiful single.

In an interview with AfterEllen.com, Nessa describes the process she went through, in writing the melody and lyrics for her current single, “Carousel”.

Yeah. I have these dream songs and they’re wonderful dreams, but then you wake up and they’re crap songs — they’re not great. Or I forget them because they’re just snippets of your subconscious, I guess. I don’t know. But this one, I just woke up with that singing line in my head [hums melody] and I love that. So I went out, at 3:30 in the morning, and played it on the piano and put it on my Garage Band and then went back to bed. But I couldn’t go back to sleep so I just lay there and the lyrics kind of slid in and I wrote it just with my thumbs on my Blackberry, in the dark. And the next morning I woke up and I forgot that the whole thing went down. I just thought the whole thing was a dream. Then I went and checked my iTunes and I played it the little demo I made and it had really happened. And it was a really kind of lovely.

You can not like Vanessa Carlton’s music, but if you’re not impressed by how she created this song, then I think you need to reevaluate your music IQ.

Read the full interview to learn more about the process Nessa went through in freeing herself from labels and creating Rabbits On The Run, as well as her thoughts on coming out as bisexual last year.

  • I Like…A Lil Wayne Song?

    Lil Wayne

I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a big Lil Wayne fan. Never really understood the hype, although I respect his hustle and business sense. I usually only like his guest features, and then the occasional solo track. But in general, he — like a lot of today’s “popular” rappers — just don’t do it for me. (90s hip hop FTW).

So, count me super surprised that, when he decides to release a single where he’s singing, I actually like it! Like, a lot! It’s really chill, and pleasant on the ears, thanks to the obvious autotune. (It’s ok, Weezy. Everybody else is doing it too.)

Like Drake’s “Find Your Love” before him, I really enjoy his departure from rapper in “How To Love”.
