  • Video Premiere: Christina Milian’s “Us Against The World”

Christina Milian is one of my faves, and actually the only “fave” that I know personally. And by know, I mean, I could pick up my phone and call her right now.

I maintain ChristinaMilian.org, on her behalf, and have since 2001. But y’all know how it is with “official websites”; updates are few and far between. Not my choice, but I’m happy to help her in any way she sees fit.

Having said that, every once in a while, I’ll give her a little shout-out here on Just My Faves because she’s good peoples and because I can!

Her new video for “Us Against The World” just premiered on MySpace. Check it out below.

Doesn’t C-Mil look fire? I love the cinematography. Very sepia, simple, and classy. Well, done!

  • Lily Allen Covers Billboard Magazine

    0

Billboard Magazine January 17th IssueMy girl, Lily Allen is gracing the cover of the January 17th issue of Billboard Magazine. This is just a part of what will probably be a very comprehensive promo effort for her upcoming album, It’s Not Me, It’s You.

In the article titled “ENGLISH BEAT: LILY ALLEN”, Lily discusses her new music, image, celebrity and tabloid presence, the changing music landscape, amongst other topics.

The highlight of this story, for me, was finding out that Lily will embark on a 20-date American tour beginning April 1. I pray she comes somewhere near me so I can catch the show. My fingers are crossed!

Lady GagaIt’s about time! My girl, Lady GaGa has climbed to the apex of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her addictive track “Just Dance”. I’ve been on this song for a hot minute, so I’m glad it’s finally made its mark for GaGa; even though it took 5 months!

And here’s to many more Gaga singles having chart success. Her album, The Fame, is solid and chock full of potential radio hits.

  • Live Review: Vanessa Carlton (Cincinnati, OH)

    0

While I do run a dedicated site for Vanessa Carlton, located at Vanessa-Carlton.net, I never got the chance to post my review of the show I attended August 5th, at Cincinnati’s 20th Century Theater. She was an opener for Joshua Radin along with Alexa Wilkinson.

This wasn’t the first time I’d seen Miss Vanessa perform. To be accurate, it was the 3rd; which is saying a lot because an artist like Vanessa doesn’t get to be a road rat like other faves of mine like Josh Kelley. I’ve also met her. She’s been aware of V-C.net since the very beginning, back in 2002. She even recorded a thank you shout out video from the set of her “Ordinary Day” music video. If only I could find it, it was so sweet!

Cincinnati isn’t far from me, just an hour and a half. I have family don there too, so I was familiar with the area. I brought my brother with me because I don’t like attending shows by myself. Plus, he’s been with me every other time I’ve seen Nessa (because he likes her music too), so it wasn’t like I was forcing him.

It was a general admission, all ages show, at a small-ish venue. I love smaller/club shows much better than the big arena and theater set-ups. These shows are much more intimate and enjoyable. I was no more than 5ft away from Vanessa and her piano and it was lovely.

The drawback to this particular venue was that they had a “no flash” rule. So you could take pictures, just without flash, but since it was so poorly lit and dark inside, there was no point in try as all shots came out extremely blurry. I even had a DSL with a telephoto lens and I still couldn’t get a quality shot. But it was ok, because not taking pictures allowed me to just listen and watch Vanessa perform. She didn’t disappoint either!

As usual, I came away impressed with her show, and especially her banter. Before she started her first hit “A Thousand Miles” she stated how she wished she hadn’t sold her song to the jewelry company because of the whole “Blood Diamonds” conflict going on. Vanessa is very progressive, and probably meant it, but the audience just thought she was making a joke and laughed. She picked up on it and said “I’m serious!” but she was laughing too. It was a funny moment.

Anyway, I truly enjoyed seeing Vanessa and I wish she had more success. She’s overflowing with talent and deserves more in the music industry. I know, that even if he does stop recording and performing, she will be a dynamite composer and songwriter. As long as she wants to stick around, she will have a niche. I don’t blame her label, The Inc, because, to be honest, they probably have no idea how to market a talent like her. They’re used to hip-hop artists! However, VH1 ordered a second season of Gotti’s Way, so we’ll probably continue to catch a glimpse of Miss Carlton on there.

Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Here is a 40 second clip of “Nolita Fairytale”:

  • Duffy’s Nivea Ads Now Airing!

    0

Duffy for NiveaI was listening to my TV, while putzing around on the internet the other day. Next thing I knew, I heard Duffy’s beautiful voice. It wasn’t an ad for her album or anything music related. Instead if was a Nivea ad spot.

Duffy signed an endorsement deal with the beauty company earlier this year, that was publicized around the time of the annual “Fashion Rocks” concert in New York City.

This particular commercial was for Nivea’s “A Kiss of Moisture Hydrating Lip Care”, which I just so happen to own. Love the stuff!

Anyway, you can check out a couple of ads featuring Duffy’s music on the official Nivea USA website.

  • Lily Allen Covers Britney Spears

Lily Allen shares her take of the Britney Spears hit “Womanizer”. I like Lily’s version better, and that’s not a knock on Brit. She currently owns me with her new single “Circus”. I’m wearing that song out! It’s just that Lily’s interpretation of the track is stripped down with more personality than any of us will ever hear on a Britney song. That’s why I like it better.

    Take a listen below:

  • Throwback: Sky – Love Song

    0

When I was in college — yes, I’m aging myself here — I was obsessed with watching The Box. For those of you unfamiliar, The Box was an awesome cable network that played absolutely NOTHING BUT MUSIC VIDEOS. It was on basic cable, so it’s leaps and bounds better than MTV Hits. MTV bought The Box, turned it into what is now MTV2, but stripped it of all its personality and awesomeness. Simply put, it was bad ass! It also showed video of up-and-coming, underground, and alternative artists and groups; something you wouldn’t see on places like MTV and VH1 back in the day. You could call in, at any time of the day, and request videos. I used to record music videos onto VHS tapes from The Box. It’s too bad I can’t find those tapes now. Probably quite a few gems on there!

It was while watching “The Box” that I found Sky, a duo from Canada. Sky created a pop/rock/R&B fusion type sound that I fell in love with. “Love Song” was the first song of theirs I heard and it led me to buy their album, Piece of Paradise, which I still enjoy to this day.
